Since joining Mayer Brown in March 2004, Nick has authored
numerous briefs on antitrust and punitive damages issues in the United States
Supreme Court and lower courts. Notable cases include Illinois Tool Works
Inc. v. Independent Ink, Inc., 126 S. Ct. 1281 (2006) (antitrust /
intellectual property), Weyerhaeuser Co. v. Ross-Simmons Hardwood Lumber Co.,
Inc. (antitrust), and Philip Morris USA v. Williams (products
liability / punitive damages).
Nick received his J.D. from Yale Law School. While at Yale, he served as an
Articles Editor for The Yale Law Journal, was a finalist for the Benjamin
N. Cardozo Prize for the best moot court brief, and was awarded the Thomas I.
Emerson Prize by the faculty for the best paper on a subject related to
legislation. After law school, he interned in the Solicitor General's office,
clerked for the Honorable Morris Sheppard Arnold of the United States Court
of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, and taught a course on antitrust law at the
George Mason University School of Law. Nick received his B.A. summa cum laude
and with high honors from Dartmouth College. Triple-majoring in Mathematics,
Mathematics and Social Sciences, and Government, Nick graduated third in his
class.
