Mayer Brown Honored By ABA Death Penalty Representation Project

Mayer Brown was co-recipient of the ABA Death Penalty Representation Project's 2007 Exceptional Service Award, which recognized the firm's commitment to representing death row prisoners. Marc Kadish, the Director of Pro Bono Activities and Litigation Training, accepted the award on behalf of the firm at the 21st Anniversary & Volunteer Recognition Event, held in Chicago on September 26, 2007.

Mayer Brown has worked with the ABA Death Penalty Representation Project for more than eight years. Through the Project, the Georgia Resource Center, the Texas Defender Service, Northwestern University School of Law's clinic program, the Innocence Project, and various court appointments, Mayer Brown lawyers have worked on numerous post-conviction and trial-level death penalty cases with great success.

Just one day after the event, lawyers in the Houston office scored a significant victory in the death penalty case of Deryl Wayne Madison when the District Court of the Southern District of Texas granted habeas relief and struck down Mr. Madison's death sentence. (Further information about the Madison case can be found here, In addition to the case of Mr. Madison, Mayer Brown has three other ongoing death penalty cases.
