Adam C. Sloane has extensive experience briefing products liability and
administrative law appeals in federal and state courts. He has a strong focus on
federal motor vehicle regulation, judicial review of agency actions, the Freedom
of Information Act (FOIA) and a broad range of products liability issues. In
addition, Adam is a member of Mayer Brown's Regulated Industries Group,
representing and counseling clients in matters before the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Consumer Product Safety Commission
and the Surface Transportation Board.
A substantial portion of Adam's administrative practice involves the FOIA. In
that regard he assists clients in protecting confidential information submitted
to federal agencies and in obtaining information through the FOIA. He has
litigated a number of FOIA cases, representing submitters of information seeking
to prevent the disclosure of information they submitted to NHTSA, representing
an intervenor in support of NHTSA in a case challenging NHTSA's FOIA
regulations, and serving as lead counsel in both district court and the court of
appeals in a case brought by Mayer Brown to obtain records withheld by the
Internal Revenue Service.
Adam joined Mayer Brown in 1992 after serving as a law clerk to The Honorable
Bruce Selya, US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
