Brian Willen has worked on cases in the United States Supreme Court as well as in various other federal and state courts. He has authored briefs on a wide variety of subjects, both civil and criminal, in cases involving federal preemption, punitive damages, federal securities litigation, the constitutionality of the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, and the First Amendment.
Brian received his B.A., magna cum laude in English, from Yale College, where he was awarded several prizes for outstanding essays in the field of English Literature. He earned his J.D. from Yale Law School in 2001. After graduation, he clerked for Judge Harry T. Edwards of the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and Judge Ellen S. Huvelle of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Prior to joining the Firm in 2006,
Brian served as an attorney-adviser in the Department of Justice's Office of Legal Counsel, where he analyzed questions of constitutional law for the Executive Branch. In that capacity, he worked on matters involving national security, federalism, separation of powers, international law, and executive privilege.
