Matthew A. Waring


Matthew Waring is an associate in Mayer Brown’s Washington DC office. He focuses his practice on representing clients before federal and state courts of appeals and in federal motions practice. He also assists clients with advocacy on regulatory and policy issues. From 2014 to 2015, Matt served as law clerk to the Honorable Jay S. Bybee of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Matt received his JD from Stanford Law School, where he was elected Senior Articles Editor of the Stanford Law Review and received the Urban A. Sontheimer First-Year Honor for the Class of 2013, awarded to the student with the highest cumulative grade score at the end of the first year. As a member of Stanford’s Supreme Court Litigation Clinic, Matt helped represent numerous clients before the US Supreme Court at both the certiorari and merits stages. While in law school, he interned with the office of the US Attorney for the District of Connecticut. Matt received his BA, with honors, in government and foreign affairs from the University of Virginia.
