Class Actions
Mayer Brown’s appellate practice is on the cutting edge of the law relating to class and representative actions. Most significantly, Mayer Brown appellate litigators won AT&T Mobility LLC v. Concepcion, 563 U.S. 321 (2011), a landmark decision in which the Supreme Court held that federal law preempts state laws forbidding the enforcement of arbitration agreements that prohibit class arbitration. In another case, we persuaded the Ninth Circuit to recognize two important limitations on class-action litigation (Mazza v. American Honda Motor), leading the American Lawyer to dub one of our appellate litigators as “California’s class action killer.” Mayer Brown’s appellate litigators also speak and write frequently on class action issues, including on Mayer Brown’s Class Defense blog.
